The WIOMSA board is excited to announce the appointment of new trustees to the WIOMSA Trust Fund to energise the trust and bring diversity to its management. Angelique Pouponneau and Dr. Julius Francis were appointed to the four member WIOMSA Trust effective from 1st November 2022.
Ms. Pouponneau comes on board as a first-time trustee. She brings a wealth of experience in the management of trusts having previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles’ Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust. Angelique is a lawyer (qualified in Seychelles and UK) and she holds an LLM in Environmental law specializing in the law of the sea and natural resources law. She serves as a Policy advisor to the Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States on climate change and ocean negotiations. The New African Magazine recognised her as one of the 100 most influential Africans in 2021. Angelique has worked in different countries on a wide range of projects relating sustainable fisheries, sustainable management of marine biodiversity within and beyond national jurisdiction. She also serves on the advisory board of the UN Ocean Decade and as a board member of the Marine Biology Association.
Dr Julius Francis is no stranger to the WIOMSA Trust having served as Trust Protector (a position reserved for the Executive Secretary of WIOMSA) from 2012-2019. He was instrumental in the establishment of the trust in 2012 and has seen it grow and gain stability over the years.
The WIOMSA board wishes to acknowledge outgoing trustees Dr Pascale Chabanet and Dr Magnus Ngoile, as well as the Trust Advisor, Mr. Philippe Sauce who all retired from the trust this year. The Board thanks them for their contribution in growing the WIOMSA trust and for their dedicated commitment even in the face of a global economic downturn.
