This quarter, WIOMSA and its partners have advanced several initiatives and achieved key regional milestones. Highlights include coral reef restoration through the WIO RESTORE project, lessons from the Nairobi Convention’s SAPPHIRE demonstration projects, and programs supporting early-career scientists via summer schools and workshops. Ocean Decade activities also highlight progress toward sustainable ocean governance in the region.
Additionally, WIOMSA, ANAC, and Nautilus Conservation signed a strategic MoU to strengthen marine conservation capacity in Mozambique.
The 13th WIOMSA Symposium features progress in seagrass research, community-led conservation, deep-water studies, and efforts toward the 30×30 conservation target across the Western Indian Ocean. Other notable updates include the launch of the Marine Spatial Planning roadmap for Comoros and recent research published in the latest papers segment.
