WIOMSA, in collaboration with Universidade Lúrio and Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, is pleased to announce a call for applications for a training titled “Training workshop: “Common sense in urban planning linked with waste management”. The workshop will take a “learning by doing/ solutions in practice” approach, focused on Pemba city, Mozambique.
The training aims to provide attendees with the opportunity to gain knowledge about the challenges associated with the construction and implementation of territorially based development strategies and the implementation of waste management programs. The training has 4 objectives:
- To impart the fundamentals of urban planning and waste management principles.
- To apply local knowledge in the requalification of settlements to improve their resilience to climatic events.
- To systematize information from the past actions to be used to elaborate a framework for recommendation of the best practices.
- To enhance scientific dialogue and strengthen the scientific collaboration among young researchers in the WIO region.
The workshop targets urban or settlement planners, environmental activists, scientific researchers, geologists, science advocacy experts, marine scientists, city planners, postgraduate students and engineering professionals who are interested in urban planning and waste management, local municipal councils (dealing with solid waste and wastewater), community representatives, civil society organizations (CSOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from the Western Indian Ocean.
Application process
The 5 day workshop will take place in Pemba city, Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique on 13 – 17 March 2023.
