Invitation to a Webinar on “Connecting to heal our Oceans in the WIO region”

The Western Indian Ocean Early Career Scientists Network (WIO-ECSN), and its country chapter of Tanzania invite you to a webinar which aims to connect youth, ocean advocates, conservationists, academicians, researchers, activists, government officials, early-career ocean professionals, and all potential stakeholders, from Tanzania and the WIO region to set common goals and focus in restoring the health of our ocean in the region. In this webinar, we will get to hear from ocean experts from different fields in the WIO region who will address the oceanic challenges from the Tanzanian perspective and finally set common goals that will deliver our ocean from these pressing challenges. The seminar is a continued implementation of commemorating the World Ocean Day 2022’s theme of connecting people to save the ocean.

Summer School : Ocean Governance for Sustainable Marine Ecosystems

The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) has joined forces with the International Ocean Institute (IOI) to host a summer school on the topic of “Ocean Governance for Sustainable Marine Ecosystems“. The event will take place from 19th to 30th September 2022. The interdisciplinary Summer School enables around 30 international participants to develop solutions for the sustainable management and protection of the oceans and offers a unique opportunity to exchange ideas with experienced researchers and practitioners.

Highlights include: 

  • An intensive academic programme providing a scientific basis from different disciplines (social and natural sciences) to enable you to engage in marine governance.
  • We have invited leading experts from different disciplines and prestigious institutions to work with the participants.
  • Key Speakers: Awni Benham, Anna-Katharina Hornidge, Rüdiger Wolfrum, Werner Ekau and many more.
  • Meet other international young, visionary scholars and network with other future leaders in ocean governance.

We invite applications from international, early-career scientists (PhD candidates, postdocs) from various disciplines in the field of marine research (biology, chemistry, geology, geography, sociology, political science and related). Representatives of governmental and non-governmental agencies with a relevant scientific background can also apply. Applications from scholars from tropical countries are especially welcomed.

Course Fees: FREE OF CHARGE for eligible candidates – the program is supported by IOI and ZMT.

Programme: Monday till Friday – 3 hours per day | 1 pm – 2:30 pm MESZ (UTC+2) and 3 pm – 4:30 pm MESZ (UTC+2).
