BRIDGES x DATA TERRA School in Comoros: Advancing FAIR, Ethical, and Sustainable Data Management for Open Science in the Comoros

From December 15 to 19, 2025, BRIDGES hosted the second BRIDGES x DATA TERRA School in Comoros, focusing on FAIR, ethical, and sustainable research data management for Open Science. The goal? To strengthen the skills of researchers, institutions, and practitioners in collecting, processing, and publishing data, aligned with BRIDGES’ key themes: fisheries, biodiversity, and marine socio-ecosystems.

Over one week, participants engaged in theoretical sessions, hands-on workshops, and experience-sharing:

  • Day 1: Introduction to Data Terra and ODATIS infrastructures, and presentation of BRIDGES’ challenges applied to the Comorian research context.
  • Day 2: Open Science, FAIR principles through a serious game, and preparation for field scenarios (1) biology, 2) temperature, 3) image).
  • Day 3: Field data collection at Mitsamiouli-Ndroudé National Park, including species surveys, sensor deployment, and underwater imaging.
  • Days 4 & 5: Data processing with OpenRefine and QGIS, and training on data publication (metadata, licenses, persistent identifiers).

BRIDGES thanks all the participants and speakers for their commitment, the quality of the discussions, and the richness of their contributions.

Key partners: CNRS, Ifremer, IRD, Data Terra research infrastructure, ODATIS Ocean Cluster, University of Comoros, Laboratory of Marine and Coastal Sciences, University of Réunion, Maison des sciences humaines et sociales en Bretagne (MSHB), Ilico research infrastructure
