Blue Sessions Dialogue Series: Dr David Obura

WIOMSA hosted its 13th Scientific Symposium in Mombasa, Kenya, from 28th September to 3rd October 2025. Gathering over 1,200 delegates from 43 countries, the conference advanced regional collaboration and strengthened ties between ocean science, policy, and practice for sustainable ocean governance.

In this episode, Dr. David Obura, MBSChair, IPBES (Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) Member, Earth Commission, shares noteworthy insights on critical ecosystem protection. 

Dr. Obura makes the case for “bending the curves” of biodiversity loss to balance the relationships between nature, economy, and society and its importance for the Ocean Decade and beyond.
