Become an Ocean Champion for the 13th WIOMSA Scientific Symposium

Are you a visual artist, videographer, and filmmaker?  What does #OneOceanOneFuture look like for you?

As we gear up for #WIOMSA2025, Ocean Champions from across the Western Indian Ocean and Africa are sharing powerful and inspiring stories that spotlight ocean conservation and marine science.

We are now inviting visual artists, videographers, and filmmakers from the Western Indian Ocean and the African continent to showcase their ocean experiences through short, impactful reels.

Why join us?

  • Be visible – Elevate your profile in the regional and global ocean community.
  • Be heard – Influence how the Western Indian Ocean is represented on the global stage.
  • Be part of history – Help make #WIOMSA2025 a premier symposium for driving real change.

How to get involved:

  • Prepare a vertical and visually captivating 30 second – 2 minute (maximum) “ocean” reel for social media that tells your ocean story and includes a call to action for marine conservation.

Some tips for a great video:

  • Lighting: Choose a well-lit location where natural light is abundant. Position yourself facing a window or light source to ensure your face is illuminated.
  • Sound: Ensure a quiet environment to capture clear audio. Speak clearly and at a moderate pace.
  • Background: Select a simple, clear background that won’t distract from your message.

Submit your reel here.

  • Note: All submissions will receive full credit across WIOMSA platforms. By submitting, you retain ownership while granting WIOMSA and partners non-exclusive rights to use your content across their digital platforms for promotional and non-commercial purposes related to the Symposium and the “One Ocean, One Future” campaign.

We can’t wait to hear your stories and see your creativity shine.
