When the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and local partners launched the drone pilot training for Tanzania’s marine managers, the goal was clear: equip teams with tools to protect coastal ecosystems more effectively. But the impact? Even greater than expected.
Thanks to the SwAM Ocean program, almost ten participants like Amos Singo are now certified drone pilots, ready to map habitats, monitor wildlife, and assess human impacts with unprecedented precision. “The training was transformative,” Amos shares. “We can now integrate drone technology into our daily work—turning data into action for our MPAs.”
But this is just the beginning. Upcoming workshops will dive deeper into surveillance, mapping, and advanced applications, ensuring teams can:
