The Ocean Discovery League is now accepting applications for its 2026 Accessing the Deep: Deep Ocean Training & Mentoring Program, aimed at early-career professionals, especially from Africa and the Western Indian Ocean. This virtual training program, developed in collaboration with the African Network of Deep-Water Researchers (ANDR) runs from May 6 to July 22, 2026, with 12 weekly sessions held on Wednesdays at 1:00-3:00 pm UTC via Zoom. Participants will gain essential technical and oceanographic knowledge focused on low-cost, accessible methods for exploring depths over 200 meters, and will be mentored by regional and deep-sea experts to develop their own exploration projects. The application deadline is March 4, 2026. Applicants should have experience in marine science or related fields, a strong interest in deep-sea research, and a clear plan to apply their skills within their community. This program aims to expand participation in the largely unexplored deep ocean.
