We are excited to share the release of the WIOMSA 2024 Annual Report, showcasing a year of significant strides in marine science and conservation across the Western Indian Ocean (WIO). Key highlights include the launch of four SCALABLE Working Groups, co-designing solutions for estuarine management, climate resilience, marine tenure, and the sustainable blue economy. WIOMSA also supported 14 early-career researchers through our MARG I programme and engaged nearly 900 individuals in training and mentorship to bridge the science-policy gap.
In advancing regional science, WIOMSA strengthened its leadership in ocean acidification with tailored policy briefs for six countries and supported national marine science symposiums. A major achievement was the Scopus indexing of our flagship Western Indian Ocean Journal of Marine Science (WIOJMS), significantly boosting the global visibility of regional research.
