WIOMSA’s 2023 Annual Report has been published. In 2023, WIOMSA’s research initiatives resulted in 12 scientific publications addressing biodiversity, governance, and sustainable development. The Western Indian Ocean Journal of Marine Science (WIOJMS) also achieved a major milestone with its indexing in SCOPUS, enhancing its global reach.
Through capacity-building efforts, WIOMSA trained over 40 practitioners in protected area management and celebrated 15 years of the Western Indian Ocean Certification of Marine Protected Area Professionals (WIO-COMPAS) certification programme. The annual report also features WIOMSA’s launch of the SCALABLE programme to foster transdisciplinary collaboration.
