Fisheries Analyst – Applied Research (Small Scale Fisheries)

Global Fishing Watch, an international, non-profit organisation committed to advancing ocean governance through increased transparency is looking for a fisheries analyst- applied research (small scale fisheries).

The Fisheries Analyst will play a key role in ensuring Global Fishing Watch delivers on its impact driven goals to better enforce and protect the rights of small scale fishers. The new hire will join the Global Practice Unit within the Program team, as part of the Applied Research function. They will provide the technical support to the small scale fisheries elements of the Program team work. The Fisheries Analyst/Africa and Small Scale Fisheries will report to the Head of Applied Research and work closely with the Africa regional team to provide broad applied research support to the region. This will include identifying and executing applied research interests of core and multiplier countries in the region. Thematically, the role will also have  a priority focus on enabling improved creation, co-management and enforcement of areas designated to small-scale fishers, such as inshore exclusion zones and preferential access areas. Additionally the fisheries analyst will take a leading role in writing technical content and sharing their practical expertise with the broader team to ensure that our research outputs are of high quality and contextualised by local and regional knowledge and expertise.
