The Coastal Science and Policy Program at the University of California Santa Cruz seeks applications from rising leaders in coastal sustainability! The application deadline is Thursday, December 20, 2023 at 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time.
This solutions-focused program has a unique practical focus, highly diverse student cohorts, and interdisciplinary faculty and courses to educate our students to pursue solutions to pressing social-environmental problems. The curriculum focuses on coastal zones – from land to sea – where biodiverse ecosystems converge with dense, vulnerable human communities and climate change impacts. Students gain interdisciplinary understanding from the natural and social sciences, hands-on training, leadership and professional skills, and strengthen their networks.
UCSC graduates go on to lead and inform actionable solutions to complex problems facing coastal communities and ecosystems. They quickly get career-enhancing positions in non-profit, government and innovation sectors, such as at the The Nature Conservancy, Wildlife Conservation Society, Environmental Defense Fund, Sustainable Ocean Alliance, Nature Finance, San Francisco Estuary Partnership, and California State Water Resources Control Board. Our students have received many national or international awards such as Switzer Fellowship, Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship, Marsh Early Career Conservation Award, Explorers Club 50, Inclusive GEF Assembly Challenge Award, and Wildlife Conservation Society Fellowships; and collaborated with over 40 partner organizations.
We encourage both U.S. and international students to apply, as well as students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. Based on financial need and program resources, we offer a limited number of fellowships for tuition and living expenses or a combination thereof.
