In this issue of the Newsbrief, we spotlight the 9th Indian Ocean Rim Association Dialogue on Innovation in Blue Economy and its role in GDP Contribution that was held in Zanzibar in May. The dialogue explored opportunities for advancing blue growth in the Indian Ocean region and concluded with adoption of the Zanzibar Consensus; a set of policy recommendations to advance the blue economy sector in the Indian Ocean Rim.
The June Newsbrief also highlights regional actions to address the growing threat of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in the Western Indian Ocean region with policy makers and other actors resolving to adopt new measures to improve transparency, regional cooperation, surveillance and tangible enforcement in the industrial and small-scale fisheries sectors.
