We mourn the passing of a friend to the WIO region, a WIOMSA and MASMA Programme Committee member, Dr. Jesper Vasell. At the time of his death, Jesper was director of the KTH Global Development hub in Sweden and Kenya. Before joining KTH, he was the Innovation Office Director at Chalmers University of Technology.
Jesper joined WIOMSA’s MASMA Programme Committee in 2013. His contributions to WIOMSA and MASMA will be remembered. Jesper helped MASMA grantees create impactful projects. He led several workshops on research impact and knowledge transfer. He helped create WIOMSA’s Innovation for Sustainability Grant programme and data management policy.
Dr. Jesper died on June 13, 2022, while on a work trip to Uganda. He will be laid to rest on Friday, July 29 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Olaf’s Chapel, at Kviberg Cemetery, Sweden.
