The Sokoine University of Agriculture in collaboration with the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association is hosting a regional training on “Capacity Building on Environmental Flows Assessment in Western Indian Ocean (WIO) Countries” on 20 August 2022 to 30 August 2022.
The course will benefit professionals working in water resource management, environmental conservation, and/or research. Government entities such as the ministries of water, environment, agriculture, and river basin organizations, as well as non-governmental organizations, research institutions, and community development organizations, are expected to attend. Environmental fluxes will be introduced, and why they are crucial for human and ecological health will be discussed. It will describe how to measure environmental fluxes and their advantages and disadvantages. Environmental fluxes are also discussed in relation to project design and regional land use and resource development.
The training will cover 8 modules as follows:
- Module 1: Concepts and understanding of EFlows
- Module 2: Situation analysis
- Module 3: Science of Environmental Flows
- Module 4: Eflows Assessment Methodologies
- Module 5: Eflows Implementation
- Module 6: Lessons Learnt from WIO regions demo experiences
- Module 7: Monitoring and Adaptive Management
- Module 8: Eflows information systems
How to apply
Water and environmental experts and other practitioners from Water Basin Offices, Ministries of Agriculture, Environmental Agencies, Research Institutions and other organizations are encouraged to apply for the course. A total of 25 trainees will be accepted for the face-to-face training. Online attendance is encouraged and a link to the virtual system and training materials will be shared in advance of the commencement of the training. Female candidates are encouraged to apply.
