Macquarie University in partnership with the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) will be conducting a science – policy training on 22-24 February 2022.
The aims of the training are to help the participants increase their knowledge of the barriers and opportunities of translating science to policy, and to provide them with the skills to facilitate and improve science-based policymaking. The workshop will provide participants with a better understanding of the science to policy transfer targeting issues such as stakeholder engagement, scientific uncertainty and complexity, and science communication.
Linked to the training is an action research project that will involve participants and seek to reveal where and how to improve science to policy transfer.
This training is open to researchers, government officials, and the NGO sector who are conducting research in the West Indian Ocean (WIO) region, and in particular those directly supported by or affiliated with WIOMSA research grants. We are especially encouraging early-career researchers to participate.
