A Virtual Regional Consultative Meeting to Discuss Draft Guidelines for Development of Legislation and Related Policies on Marine Litter in Africa

The UN Environment Programme through its Africa Office in collaboration with the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) are organizing a regional consultative meeting to discuss draft Guidelines for development of legislation and related policies on marine litter in Africa in a platform, INTERACTIO on 11 and 12 November 2021. The meeting will be held at 10:00 – 11:30 AM EAT (GMT+3).

Simultaneous translation will be available in English, French and Portuguese.

Documents for the meeting have been posted in the Project page under the ‘Documents for the Meeting’.  Comments on the draft guidelines for legislation on marine litter in Africa are welcome. It has been stated that countries are starting to adopt a life cycle approach, but this has not been reflected in the review of legal instruments. The gap analysis report showed a few countries had legal frameworks which governed across the life cycle of waste. Recommendations on harmonising policy instruments to account for the entire life cycle of waste would be valuable.

All participants to the meeting are required to register to receive the link to the meeting.

Guidelines on how to use the platform, INTERACTIO are available here.
